His Excellency President of Customs Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa has chaired the 25th meeting of the GCC Customs Union. At the beginning of the virtual session, he congratulated the attendees for the holy month of Ramadan. He thanked the UAE for what was achieved in the last session that was under its presidency.
The meeting discussed topics on the agenda that aim to promote regional customs services and cooperation.
The attendees reviewed the benefit of joining some international customs agreements of the World Customs Organisation. The development of customs ports was reviewed based on a study by Saudi Arabia to develop its ports. The meeting approved to take part in the study in coordination with the General Secretariate and to discuss the outcomes in the next meeting.
At the end of the meeting, the union issued recommendations to the Financial Cooperation Committee, including amending some Unify Customs law articles.
The President of Customs proposed forming a team to follow up studies and hold a meeting to review their results in coordination with the General Secretariat.
