The President of Customs, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, attended the opening ceremony of a regional workshop on flexible international supply chain, part of the Supply Chain Integrity Programme adopted by the Australian Customs Authority and the World Customs Organisation (WCO) and hosted by Bahrain’s Customs Affairs.
At the beginning of the workshop, the President of Customs welcomed the participants from all countries. He praised the initiative of the Australian Customs in launching this programme, which is an essential step towards enhancing the safety and flexibility of the supply chains supervised by Customs and reflects a commitment to confronting the threats and risks facing this sector. He said that the programme extends over three years, including establishing specialised training curricula for supply chains and providing regional seminars to raise awareness and coordinate operational activities between countries. He stressed that Bahrain Customs Affairs looks forward to fruitful cooperation to achieve the desired goals and develop everything that would raise the level of customs work by exchanging expertise between countries and benefiting from experiences facing difficulties. He pointed out that customs have historically moved from one stage to another in balancing between maintaining security and facilitating trade in the face of new challenges, such as the increase in the volume of imports and e-commerce, which requires faster steps to avoid disrupting the transit movement.
Hosting this workshop reflects the commitment of Bahrain Customs Affairs to enhance cooperation and coordination in supply chains. It is worth noting that WCO experts present the workshop.
