President of Customs chairs WCO sessions launch

President of Customs and Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) council, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa chaired the launch of the 88 and 141-142 sessions of the council’s general policy that is organised from June 19 to 24 in the Brussels. The event was attended by WCO Secretary General Dr Kunio Mikuriya and committee members from 30 countries. 

The committee discussed a set of important customs issues, such as the WCO implementation plan for the fiscal year 2023-2024, technology and innovation, green customs, fragile borders, governance and the inclusion of other languages. The names of candidates for the election of a new WCO Secretary General were reviewed.

It is worth noting that this will be followed by a WCO council meeting of the World Customs Organization Council with the participation of a delegation from the Customs Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain that will announce the names of the new WCO  Secretary-General and council chairperson.
