President of Customs participates in WCO meeting

His Excellency President of Customs, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa has participated in the opening of a session of the World Customs Organisation in Brussel. He presented a paper on the future of the customs work in relation to the development of information technology. He highlighted the importance for the WCO to form a global digital platform to enable customs authorities to exchange information through modern techniques, such as Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence.

He as Deputy President of the WCO for MENA region chaired the 48th regional meeting, highlighting the importance to unify regional stands and views that would present to the upcoming WCO board. The President also informed the meeting of the main results of the policies committee, including the approval of the criteria framework of the cross-border e-commerce and the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the International Monetary Fund
